Meet us at our Central Meeting Point, where you will board our comfortable coach to reach Oranienburg. On the way, you will drive through the city of Oranienburg, where Sachsenhausen was located and see where the inmates would have worked in the city. You will learn about how the local population benefited financially from the concentration camp being so close to town.
Once arriving at Sacshenhausen you will have a refreshment break, then experience the interior of the camp. Where the inmates lived, worked and were punished. Approximately 35,000 died at the hands of the SS by, starvation, disease, experimentation, or systematic murder.
You will see the commandants house, the location of where inmates were experimented on. Learn more about barrack life, and how the inmates survived living day to day. Visit the sites of torture, and where the inmates were executed in Station Z. You will also hear about what experimentation took place on the inmates in the infirmary.
After World War 2 Sachsenhausen was used by the Soviets as a "Special camp" where an additional 12,500 died. By 1948, Sachsenhausen was Special Camp number 1.
Once the tour is over you will be driven back to Berlin where your guide can give you information on things to see and do in Berlin. The tour will then be ending where it started at Friedrichstrasse Train Station at 2pm.
